Proposal Summary
I am proposing to create a known platform where people are able to confidentially contact the committee for violations of human rights would create an approachable take in bringing justice.
Audience (Who are you trying to impact? Who are you pitching the proposal to?)
Non citizens that feel unsafe to have a voice on how their human rights are being violated would now have the opportunity to receive justice. The United Nations of Human Rights should provide such platform and promote it to the public.
Why does it matter/ why should they accept my proposal?
As I found in my research, there are many migrants in the U.S. that are doing work for this country and there is a negative atmosphere that has been created towards them. Citizens of the U.S. start labeling innocent migrants and do things that violate their rights. They are so terrified of complaining because there is a risk of them being sent back to their original country. Living in a different country is already challenging enough because migrants might have to adapt to a new culture and overcome language barriers. Creating a safe platform where migrants can have the opportunity to finally speak up about their violations of human rights, will allow them to finally receive justice. No matter the race, ethnicity, or color we are all humans that deserve to have our human rights respected.
What does my proposal look like?
The United Nations of Human Rights would need to create a platform that works sort of like a hotline. Instead of it being a number and having a dispatcher, there would be an email or a mailing address. A migrant filing a “complaint” would be able to do so without fear of being tracked by any organizations that promote the removal of migrants and immigrants. One of the human rights is the right or privacy so sharing any information that could potentially harm the migrant will not be tolerated.
Migrants would need to be informed about this platform and a great way to do this would be through social media. Today, many people are hooked with social media. A lot of people are plugged in to their phones the majority of their time. Whenever I go to social media there is always posts about climate change and how it is affecting the environment. They are usually dramatic and use graphic images. Once one person sees it, they repost it and from there it spreads on. There was once a movement I saw on instagram where people started changing their profile pictures to a solid blue color. This was meant to spread awareness of the issues that were going on with Sudan at the time. A single small action that lead to many people to follow the trend spread a tremendous amount of awareness.
I would propose to follow the concept. I along with the help of others can film a mini documentary about The life of a migrant and show the devastating challenges they go through along with how their rights are being violated. I've been focusing more on Mexican migrants when there is really other migrant issues going on in the world. Quick shots of migrants of all ages across the world would be impactful. There could be a brief summary of violation of migrant rights and there would be shots that include what that looks like. The video would then end off with information on how to contact the newly created platform run by the United Nations Human Rights Council and briefly explain the process and the safety of it.
